Briefing NOVEMBER 2023
Overview

It's time again for the Annual 2-4-CIX Display! Fire up your engines and fly into Perth Airport (EGPT) anytime up until the 28th November then sit back, relax and enjoy the show! A forum post will be made, where the YouTube link will be uploaded on the day. Join us on Teamspeak from 1900L!

Start Time and Place

The fly-in element takes place from the start of November up until the evening of Tuesday 28th, when the display itself will then kick off at 2000L (8pm UK time).

Flight Planning

Those flying into Perth should plan their flight accordingly, taking into account any airspace and terrain nearby.

What Aircraft can I fly

You may use any aircraft (including helicopters) classified as GA (within the EASA "light" category), see club rules for details.

Weather or not?

Before flying into Perth we will check the weather for VFR conditions. If it is unsuitable for our trip as planned, then we will fix it. Something we can do in the simulator - wouldn't it be nice if we could do it in real life! You will need to turn off any on-line weather updates and select calm in the simulator weather options.

As the display itself is pre-recorded, we're in for a lovely day!

Airmanship

Remember to ANC (Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.) This event should be fun for all, both pilots and controllers. Bear in mind that other (non CIX VFR CLUB) traffic may also use the same airspace/airfields but everyone has equal priority (VFR). Should your enjoyment become impaired due to "unsportsmanlike" ATC, let someone know to allow club senior pilots to pass on your concerns to the controller! Similarly, accept any refusal of access permission or admonishment lightly if you get something wrong, such as straying into Controlled Airspace without clearance, and use it as a learning point if required.

If you wish to receive help and training for / before the event, please ask. Everyone wants to help....It's the CIX way!

ATC

Be prepared and expect ATC to be active over / around the coverage area. There is a likelihood of Perth Radio being manned on the evening of the 28th up until 1945L

Radio Discipline

Take care not to let our TeamSpeak Chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation immediately the R/T comes alive, and then continue if "he wasn't talking to us". This is difficult because when transmitting on TeamSpeak you can't hear the R/T. So be brief on TeamSpeak and be aware that ATC might be trying to get through. If anyone hears an R/T message which seems to be being ignored, just say "ATC is calling G-CIXX" if you have identified the callsign, or "ATC is calling us" which is a cue for everyone to be quiet on TeamSpeak until ATC call again (which they will). Remember too that if asked to "Stand By" by ATC it means you do not reply - not even "Roger", but simply wait until you are called again. Remember also that there are different ATC frequencies in use, and you may not be able to hear when communications are taking place. Make sure you have set and know how to use the TeamSpeak Mute switch.

Club Star Award

½ Star will be awarded for flying into EGPT at anytime between 1st and 28th November.

½ Star will be awarded for those watching the display, details of this will be provided on the evening
