Briefing | JANUARY 2022 |
Overview |
After postponing the Annual 2-4-CIX Display in November due to poor weather, the teams are proud to announce that 2021's Annual Display will take place on Tuesday 18th January. Get your aircraft fired up at Gloucester and fly into Kemble before kicking off the display at 1930L on the dot! |
Start Time and Place | Depart Gloucester between 1830L and 1900L on Tuesday 18th January, and arrive at Kemble no later than 1920L. The video duration is approximately 1 hour. |
The Exercise | Meet up on Teamspeak, depart from Gloucester EGBJ and fly to Kemble EGBP. You may fly a direct route, or perhaps go sightseeing on your way in the beautiful Cotswolds. All aircraft need to depart Gloucester by 1900L and the last arrival at Kemble will be 1920L, ready for a 1930L start to watch the video. The link to the YouTube video will be published in the evening. |
Flight Planning (Plan-G, Little NavMap) |
The flights should be done on VATSIM. You may set your own route, starting at Gloucester EGBJ and arriving at Kemble EGBP on time. Data sheets for both airfields are available. |
What Aircraft can I fly | Any aircraft permitted in the club rules, either fixed wing or rotary wing. |
Weather... or Not | Before starting we will check the weather. If it is unsuitable for our trip as planned, then we will fix it. Something we can do in the simulator - wouldn't it be nice if we could do it in real life! |
ATC | Gloucester Tower will be staffed up on VATSIM from 1830L until 1900L, with the possibility of Gloucester Radar being staffed. Expect a service to be provided upon arrival at Kemble through Teamspeak. |
Radio Discipline | Take care not to let
our Teamspeak chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation
immediately the R/T comes alive, then continue if "he
wasn't talking to us". This is difficult because when
transmitting on Teamspeak you can't hear the R/T. So
be brief on Teamspeak, and be aware that ATC might be
trying to get through. If anyone hears an R/T message
which seems to be being ignored, just say "ATC is calling
G-CIXN" if you have identified the callsign, or "ATC
is calling us" which is a cue for everyone to be quiet
on Teamspeak until ATC call again (which they will).
Remember too that if asked to "Stand By" by ATC, you
do not reply - not even "Roger", but simply wait until
you are called again. Remember also that there are several different ATC frequencies in use, and you may not be able to hear when communications are taking place. Make sure you have set and know how to use a Teamspeak mute switch. (See note re ATC above.) |
Club Star Award |
½ Star will be awarded for flying from Gloucester to Kemble on the night. ½ Star will be awarded to those who are in attendance to watch the display at 1930L. For the first ½ Star to be awarded, you need to file a PIREP with the destination set to “EGBP” on Tuesday 18th January 2022. For the second ½ Star to be awarded, you must file the departure as “EGBP” and the destination as “EGBP”, with a flight time of “0” (Zero) minutes, and saved as “authorised offline”. |
