Briefing April 2016
Overview

For April we will again be flying into a "difficult" mountain airstrip. This one is much closer to home - it's in France - Courchevel (LFLJ)

Start Time and Place

The event may be flown on any day in April, however it should ideally be flown on Wednesday 13th April starting at about 1900z (2000 UK Local) to join in with other members.
I would advise that if you do want to fly with other members during the event then log onto Teamspeak at 1900z
We will be flying from Geneva (LSGG)
Note that the mandatory route out of the Geneva zone is via VRP "Geneva Echo", and VRP "Geneva Echo SE". (If there is ATC available at Geneva the Swiss VATSIM is as strict on compliance with this mandatory route as in the Real-world!)
Although the event star will be awarded for the flight from Geneva to Courchevel you are invited to evacuate Courchevel and fly on to "Aix-les-Bains" (LFLB)

What Aircraft can I fly

Any aircraft can be flown in this event as long as it is within the EASA GA category.

Flight Plannong

Your flight plan should show:

  • Departure = LSGG (Geneva)
  • Destination = LFLJ (Courchevel)
  • Route = LSGG to LFLJ Via "Geneva Echo", Geneva Echo SE", then avoiding the LFLP zone
  • Comments = /V/ DAYLIGHT / CIX VFR CLUB /

At 80 knots this Route should take about 0hour 43 minutes.

The "continuation route" flight plan should show:

  • Departure = LFLJ (Courchevel)
  • Destination = LFLB (Aix-les-Baines)
  • Route = LFLJ to LFLb Via waypoints to follow convenient valley routes to avoid ridges and peaks.
  • Comments = /V/ DAYLIGHT / CIX VFR CLUB /

At 80 knots this Route should take about 0hour 34 minutes.

ATC

At the time of publishing this event plan, ATC has not been confirmed.

Radio Discipline

Take care not to let our Teamspeak chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation immediately the R/T comes alive, then continue if "he wasn't talking to us". This is difficult because when transmitting on Teamspeak you can't hear the R/T. So be brief on Teamspeak, and be aware that ATC might be trying to get through. If anyone hears an R/T message which seems to be being ignored, just say "ATC is calling G-CIXN" if you have identified the callsign, or "ATC is calling us" which is a cue for everyone to be quiet on Teamspeak until ATC call again (which they will). Remember too that if asked to "Stand By" by ATC, you do not reply - not even "Roger", but simply wait until you are called again.

Remember also that there are several different ATC frequencies in use, and you may not be able to hear when communications are taking place. Make sure you have set and know how to use a Teamspeak mute switch.
