Club Events - Mad Monday
This month we are having a Mad Monday exercise! Briefing by: Max Symons
Briefing 23 January 2017
Overview Mad Monday is planned to create mayhem around Shoreham and Goodwood. "JoinFS" will be used to connect pilots to a "club only" session, with pilots split into two groups. More details will be provided in the club forum.
Start Time and Place This event will take place on Monday 23rd Jan, with a start time of 1930z (1930 UK time=GMT)
Airmanship All pilots will obey A.T.C. to the letter.
Always remembering (Aviate, Navigate, Communicate)
Platform We will be using "JoinFS" for this event, and ATC trained members will be providing ATC on Teamspeak. (They will be manning TS rooms designated with the appropriate frequency - ensure you know which frequency you need to be tuned to!) This means that, although it is stated that "All pilots will obey A.T.C. to the letter" the controllers will be friendly and helpful, as this is intended as a training exercise with one aim being to improve our RT communications when we go back to the wider community!
What Aircraft can I fly Aircraft will be Cessna 172s or aircraft with a similar flight envelope.
Weather Before starting we will set an appropriate weather. One pilot will be designated as the "Weather Master", and we will all take our weather from that pilot using the "JoinFS/View/Aircraft/Copy Weather" facility.

Pilot Group Two

  • Land at Popham (EGHP).
  • File a new flight plan.
  • Take off from Popham (EGHP). Fly to Goodwood (EGHR) for zone transit en route to Shoreham (EGKA).
  • Land at Shoreham (EGKA). Flight complete.
Plan-G As part of the exercise is "Flight Planning" there is no Plan-G file for this Event!
ATC At the time of publishing this event plan, ATC has been confirmed at all airfields.
Radio Discipline ATC will be provided on Teamspeak.
It might be possible to set up and use the "whisper" facility in TS, allowing the banter and chat in TS to continue as per normal! (Watch the forum for further details.)
Take care not to let our Teamspeak chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation immediately the R/T comes alive, then continue if "he wasn't talking to us". This is difficult because when transmitting on Teamspeak you can't hear the R/T. So be brief on Teamspeak, and be aware that ATC might be trying to get through. If anyone hears an R/T message which seems to be being ignored, just say "ATC is calling G-CIXN" if you have identified the callsign, or "ATC is calling us" which is a cue for everyone to be quiet on Teamspeak until ATC call again (which they will). Remember too that if asked to "Stand By" by ATC, you do not reply - not even "Roger", but simply wait until you are called again.
Remember also that there are several different ATC frequencies in use, and you may not be able to hear when communications are taking place. Make sure you have set and know how to use a Teamspeak mute switch.
