Shipments For Scilly Briefing by: Edward Warnell
  Briefing Saturday 19th-26th October 2013
Overview Octobers even takes in the stunning scenery of Cornwall and the historic Lands End coastline flying parcels out to the people of the Scilly isles as the helicopter no longer operates to do this run for the islanders.
Start Time and Place The event will take place between Saturday 19th - Saturday 26th October .
There are four individual airfields from which you can fly depending on what aircraft you want to fly. If you want to fly a helicopter during this event then please depart from either Davidstowe Moor or Perranporth. If you want to fly single engine props or microlights you can fly from any airfield. If you want to fly twin aircraft then please depart from Plymouth airport. If you want to fly with other members during the event then log onto Teamspeak on Thursday 24th at 1930 Local.
Weather ...or not Before starting we will check the weather. If it is unsuitable for our trip as planned, then we will fix it. Something we can do in the simulator - wouldn't it be nice if we could do it in real life!

FSInn has a "CAVOK" button. Click this and you get calm clear weather.
Those using SB will need to turn off the on-line weather updates, and select calm in the FS weather options.
Flight Planning So the layout of the event is as follows:
  1. After choosing which aircraft and airfield you will be departing from, fly either the route supplied or one that you want to make up yourself and perform a full stop landing at Lands End airport. If flying with other members wait at lands end until all members have performed there full stop landing.
  2. Once all members have landed and have parked on the apron, taxi out and depart to the west and fly down to St Mary´s (Scilly Islands) and perform a full stop landing. Allow your passengers and cargo to be offloaded and depart back to Lands End.
  3. After landing at Lands End again continue back to your departing airfields.
  4. Once you have completed the flight please complete two PIREPs. One with the arrival airport as St Mary´s EGHE and the second one with the arrival airport set as your departure airfields (EGLA, EGHD, EG03, EGTP).
Plan-G files of the route can be found here:
ATC At the time of publishing this event plan, ATC has not been confirmed but if ATC is available then please use it.
Radio Discipline Take care not to let our Teamspeak chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation immediately the R/T comes alive, then continue if "he wasn't talking to us". This is difficult because when transmitting on Teamspeak you can't hear the R/T. So be brief on Teamspeak, and be aware that ATC might be trying to get through. If anyone hears an R/T message which seems to be being ignored, just say "ATC is calling G-CIXN" if you have identified the callsign, or "ATC is calling us" which is a cue for everyone to be quiet on Teamspeak until ATC call again (which they will). Remember too that if asked to "Stand By" by ATC, you do not reply - not even "Roger", but simply wait until you are called again.
Remember also that there are several different ATC frequencies in use, and you may not be able to hear when communications are taking place. Make sure you have set and know how to use a Teamspeak mute switch.
